Job description

The Senior System Administrator is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the program's virtualized environments and IT systems. This position requires a seasoned professional who can manage and maintain complex systems, ensuring their optimal performance and security. A primary responsibility of this position is to work closely with the Prime Contractor’s Technical Lead, other engineers, and the program team in support of executing this contract by providing IT support, technology elements, and data migration between data centers and the cloud to the Department of Justice (DoJ). The Senior System Administrator will collaborate with team members to interface with virtualized management platforms, conduct routine system health checks, validate system settings, and support the overall operating environment. The supported environments host over 300 Windows VMs on ESXi hosts per data center, with a combination of active-active and active-passive applications between data centers.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Perform primary administrative functions within the program's virtualized environments, ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of IT systems.
2. Interface with virtualized management platforms, such as VMware, to manage and monitor virtual machines and resources.
3. Conduct routine system health checks, validate system settings, and perform necessary maintenance to ensure systems operate at peak performance.
4. Provide detailed technical information for reporting purposes, including hardware and software specifications, system configurations, and performance metrics.
5. Collaborate with system architects and program management to support data storage management, backup strategies, system monitoring, operations systems, directory services, identity management, access management, and automation.
6. Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues, working proactively to prevent potential problems and minimize downtime.
7. Ensure compliance with IT policies, procedures, and best practices, maintaining system security and data integrity.

Education and Experience :

1. Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years of related experience, or a Master’s degree with three years of related experience.
2. Extensive experience in managing and maintaining virtualized environments and IT systems in complex organizational settings.
3. Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Broadcom’s VMware.
4. An active Department of Justice (DoJ) clearance (or reciprocal) is preferred but not required; willingness to obtain if necessary. Public Trust clearance is required.
5. Remote support capability with on-site meetings as needed. Travel may be up to 15-25% during the base period, less during options.

Required Skills and Abilities :

1. Proficient in administering virtualized environments, specifically Broadcom’s VMware versions 6 and 7.
2. Experience with Microsoft SQL or similar database systems.
3. Ability to perform system health checks, validate settings, and conduct routine maintenance with minimal supervision.
4. Strong technical reporting skills, including hardware/software specifications and performance metrics.
5. Experience collaborating with system architects and program management on various IT tasks.
6. Knowledge of data storage, backup, monitoring, directory services, identity and access management, and automation.
7. Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and resolution skills.
8. Effective communication and collaboration skills.
9. Commitment to staying current with relevant technologies and best practices.

Desired Skills and Abilities :

1. Experience with storage systems and data migration projects, including cloud migrations.
2. Relevant certifications in VMware, Microsoft, or other related fields are advantageous.
3. Knowledge of Red Hat Linux is a plus.
4. Experience with Veeam, Varonis, Pure Storage, Cisco switching, and compute is desirable.
