Job summary

Massport is seeking a Manager, Survey Department to lead the Survey Unit and guide land title, boundary analysis, and property-related initiatives for critical infrastructure projects in the Boston area.

You will oversee budgeting, staffing, and performance management while coordinating with internal departments and external partners to ensure regulatory compliance and safe, accurate surveying outcomes.

Qualifications

• 4 year college degree required; ability to communicate land title, spatial orientation, labor, and budget matters in Standard English.
• 10-15 years of land surveying experience with at least 5 years in a supervisor/management role.
• Massachusetts Registered Professional Land Surveyor license required.
• Knowledge of 250 CMR; familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit and Calson Software desirable.

Responsibilities

• Leads the strategic and day-to-day operations of the Survey Unit, overseeing workforce planning, budgeting, staff development, performance management, labor relations, and delivery of surveying services.
• Directs land-based, hydrographic, and aircraft obstruction surveying activities, maintaining survey control networks and construction measurements.
• Partners with internal departments, consultants, utilities, government agencies, and external stakeholders to manage surveying, property, and infrastructure matters.
• Provides expert technical leadership on property boundaries, legal descriptions, ground leases, and land rights for construction, risk management, and regulatory proceedings.
