Job Summary
Under direct supervision, assists the surgical team before, during, and after surgery. Provides expert support, assistance, and maintenance of instruments and equipment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead, check, review, assign, organize, coordinate, train, and report on the work of one or more Surgical Technicians, or demonstrate equivalent experience and skills.
- Configure equipment for ease of use, ensure sterility and functionality, assist with setup and equipment during procedures, and allocate equipment daily.
- Assist team members with patient positioning, scrubbing, gowning, gloving, and donning protective gear.
- Hand instruments and supplies to surgeons, hold retractors, and perform tasks as directed. Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after procedures. Apply dressings post-surgery.
- Participate actively in patient safety and quality care initiatives.
- Maintain operating room cleanliness and assist with room turnover.
- Wash, sterilize, and maintain equipment.
- Recommend guidelines for equipment use, purchases, and supplies to management.
- Assemble and prepare case carts with necessary supplies and instruments.
- Perform other duties as needed. Supervisory responsibilities include motivating and directing other employees without hiring or disciplinary authority.
Qualifications
- Minimum two years of current acute Operating Room experience.
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Basic Life Support certification.
Additional Requirements
- Surgical Technicians certified by recognized bodies qualify as Senior Surgical Technicians.
- Experience with various surgical specialties preferred.
- Willingness to train RNs and other staff in scrub roles.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and write instructions and correspondence; basic computer skills; effective communication skills.
- Willingness to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Surgical Technology.
- Experience with video, orthopedic, and other surgical equipment.
