Job summary

Berkley Surety (a Berkley Company) is seeking a senior claims professional to manage complex contract and commercial surety claims. You will lead, train, and mentor junior staff while providing expert analysis and strategic direction across multiple jurisdictions.

You will investigate claims, set reserves, coordinate with management, and support underwriting with risk assessments. A JD/MBA/CPCU is preferred, with extensive experience in claims and construction projects.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4-year degree; JD, MBA or CPCU preferred; for JD, state admission desirable.
• At least 15 years of experience in surety, legal or construction with 9+ years in claims/complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Resolve claims promptly to minimize exposure and maximize recoveries.
• Review coverage and assess positions per bond terms and law.
• Investigate claims and assess claimant/principal positions.
• Set and maintain timely reserves in consultation with management.
• Develop strategies to resolve claims and mitigate losses.
• Maximize salvage and subrogation opportunities.
• Provide timely analysis and reports to management.
• Support Head of Claims in mentoring junior staff and department admin.
• Assist underwriting with risks assessment as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
