Job summary

Mount Vernon City School District is seeking a Supervisor of Special Education to implement and maintain programs in compliance with state and federal law, supervise SPED staff, and ensure high-quality services for students with disabilities.

The role involves coordinating meetings, developing and monitoring IEPs, and collaborating with district leadership to design effective SPED services while staying within budget and district procedures.

Qualifications

• Valid NYS certification in Special Education and leadership credentials.
• Experience as a Special Education administrator or supervisor.
• Strong knowledge of IEP development, monitoring, and compliance.
• Experience coordinating transportation and SDI implementation.
• Ability to guide staff, analyze data, and collaborate with district leadership.

Responsibilities

• Chairs or participates in AR, Reevaluation, Program Review, and related meetings; implement IEP information.
• Assist in development, monitoring, and updating of IEPs.
• Supervise the implementation of IEPs and ensure service provision.
• Collaborate with administration to design programs for teachers and students.
• Review data to support effective instructional practices in SPED.
• Support general education in writing referrals to CSE and ensuring core instruction quality.

Education

NYS SDA/SDL Administrative certification

NYS Teacher Certification in Special Education

SWD 1-6 or SWD 7-12/Content Area 7-12

Related service certification (School Psychologist, Speech Pathologist)

Five years teaching/administrative experience in special education
