Austin NAWIC is seeking an experienced Commercial Construction Estimator to develop accurate, competitive estimates for commercial projects. You will work with project teams, clients, architects, and subcontractors to produce detailed cost plans from plans and specifications.

The role emphasizes preconstruction, value engineering, constructability, and strategic bidding to support successful project delivery in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in commercial construction estimating and takeoffs.
• Ability to read drawings, specs, and bid documents.
• Proficient in estimating software and MS Office.
• Bachelor-friendly degree in CM/Engineering or related field preferred.

Responsabilités

• Review drawings, specs, bid documents, and requirements.
• Prepare conceptual, budget, and hard-bid estimates.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, and equipment.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals.

Description

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Construction Estimator to join our construction team and play a key role in developing accurate, competitive, and well-structured estimates for commercial construction projects.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of commercial construction, subcontractor pricing, material costs, labor requirements, and project scheduling. This individual will work closely with project management, clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors to develop estimates that support successful project delivery. This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator who enjoys being involved early in the construction process and wants to contribute to preconstruction, value engineering, constructability, and project strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and analyze construction drawings, specifications, bid documents, and project requirements
• Prepare detailed conceptual, budget, and hard-bid estimates
• Perform quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals
• Develop competitive lump-sum and negotiated bid proposals
• Assist with milestone scheduling and project planning during preconstruction
• Identify scope gaps, exclusions, conflicts, and potential project risks
• Develop cost breakdowns and maintain accurate estimating documentation
• Evaluate subcontractor bids for completeness, accuracy, and scope coverage
• Work with the project team to develop budgets and establish cost-effective construction strategies
• Identify opportunities for value engineering and constructability improvements
• Assist with design-assist and design/build projects by providing construction expertise during the design process
• Research material pricing, labor costs, equipment requirements, and market conditions
• Coordinate with operations to ensure estimates are realistic and executable in the field
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, scope reviews, and client presentations as needed
• Prepare final bid submissions and assist with contract negotiations
• Maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners
• Support project handoff from estimating to project management and field operations

Requirements

• 3+ years of commercial construction estimating experience
• Strong understanding of commercial construction methods and sequencing
• Experience estimating projects from plans and specifications
• Ability to perform detailed material and labor takeoffs
• Experience soliciting, leveling, and negotiating subcontractor bids
• Strong knowledge of construction costs, materials, labor, and equipment
• Ability to identify constructability issues and potential cost risks
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously
• Proficiency with construction estimating software and Microsoft Office
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred, but equivalent construction experience will be considered
