Job description

Senior Superintendent – Charleston

As Senior Superintendent, you're the primary field leader on assigned projects—directing every trade and subcontractor on‑site and taking ownership the moment work begins in the field. For this position, we are seeking candidates with significant civic and education project experience, and a depth of knowledge in concrete and structural steel, to support a high‑profile courthouse build.

You'll set clear expectations that drive efficient installations, keep projects safe, on schedule, and on budget, and help build the next generation of Samet field leaders along the way.

What You'll Do
  • Direct and supervise all construction activities on assigned projects, particularly civic and education facilities, with an emphasis on concrete and structural steel work.

  • Coordinate work schedules and sequences among multiple trades and subcontractors, ensuring seamless integration of structural steel and concrete operations.

  • Monitor project progress and maintain construction schedules, proactively addressing unique requirements of courthouse builds.

  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure quality and compliance, focusing on critical structural phases.

  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts, including courthouse or public project documentation.

  • Implement and enforce all safety protocols and OSHA regulations, especially those affecting structural steel and concrete operations.

  • Conduct daily safety meetings and toolbox talks with attention to high‑risk activities typical in civic/education construction.

  • Investigate incidents and maintain safety documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with local building codes and permit requirements pertinent to public buildings.

  • Maintain clean and organized job sites.

  • Communicate clearly with direct reports on performance expectations, and support their career path development by setting goals for scalable growth.

  • Maintain strong communication and relationships with contractors and suppliers to support the construction schedule, particularly those providing concrete and structural steel services.

  • Oversee and manage punch lists through project closeout, with a focus on civic project requirements.

  • Meet with AHJs and third‑party inspectors to facilitate inspections and approvals, collaborating regularly with government officials.

  • Review subcontractor performance against scheduled deadlines to confirm manpower, equipment, and materials are sufficient to meet deliverables for structural steel and concrete work.

  • Lead the field team in promoting quality initiatives, setting expectations for inspections and observations, and ensuring quality and safety platforms are properly utilized, with a keen focus on complex civic or educational builds.

  • Maintain job site cleanliness, organization, and curb appeal appropriate for government facilities.

  • Assist in developing and updating the project PMP as required.

  • Work closely with the Project Manager to develop and manage subcontractor scopes of work.

  • Participate in developing the baseline schedule and own the CPM schedule—managing, updating, and implementing it throughout the project.

  • Lead weekly coordination meetings, pre‑install meetings, and schedule meetings that keep construction activities moving efficiently.

What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, construction engineering, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and professional email etiquette.

  • Minimum 7-10 years of construction experience, including 3-5 years in a supervisory role, with substantial experience on civic/education and courthouse projects and expertise in concrete and structural steel construction.

  • Experience with commercial, institutional, or industrial construction projects; preference given for courthouse, civic, and education sector builds.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.

  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

  • Experience managing diverse teams and subcontractors.
