Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Superintendent to lead the field operations of commercial construction projects in the Charlotte market. This position is responsible for providing overall onsite leadership, coordinating subcontractors and vendors, maintaining project schedules, enforcing safety and quality standards, and ensuring projects are delivered successfully from mobilization through completion.
The ideal candidate is a highly organized and decisive construction professional who can lead complex projects, build strong relationships with project teams and trade partners, and maintain a high level of accountability in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall field leadership and direction for commercial construction projects from preconstruction through project closeout.
- Develop, maintain, and manage detailed project schedules in coordination with the Project Manager and project team.
- Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and onsite personnel.
- Lead daily and weekly coordination meetings and communicate project priorities clearly to the field team.
- Review plans, specifications, shop drawings, and project documents to identify potential conflicts and constructability issues.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Architects, Engineers, Owners, and subcontractors to resolve field issues and maintain project momentum.
- Monitor project progress and proactively identify schedule risks, material delays, manpower concerns, and other potential impacts.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized jobsite while enforcing company and project-specific safety requirements.
- Ensure construction activities are performed in accordance with contract documents, plans, specifications, applicable codes, and established quality standards.
- Conduct regular quality-control inspections and coordinate correction of deficiencies.
- Manage site logistics, including deliveries, staging, access, temporary facilities, and coordination of multiple trades.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, schedules, meeting documentation, inspection records, and other required project documentation.
- Participate in project planning, constructability reviews, and preconstruction meetings as needed.
- Assist with project buyout and subcontractor coordination by providing field input on sequencing, logistics, and constructability.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors and trade partners.
- Mentor and develop Project Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, and other field personnel.
- Represent the company professionally with clients, design professionals, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Take ownership of project outcomes and actively drive projects toward successful completion.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of commercial construction experience, with significant experience serving as a Superintendent on ground-up and/or major renovation projects.
- Proven experience leading commercial construction projects from start to finish.
- Experience managing multiple subcontractors and coordinating complex construction activities.
- Strong understanding of commercial construction means and methods, sequencing, scheduling, and project logistics.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, MEP, civil, and specialty construction documents.
- Strong knowledge of construction safety practices and OSHA requirements.
- Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively manage competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with construction management and scheduling software.
- Ability to work collaboratively with project management and executive leadership while maintaining strong field-level authority.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required.
