Job summary

William A. Hazel, Inc. is seeking a Senior Superintendent to lead on-site management of site development and civil construction projects in Chantilly, VA. This role ensures projects are built safely, on time, and within budget, coordinating with the SR Project Manager and Project Manager.

The Senior Superintendent will mentor field staff, manage subcontractors, develop short-interval schedules, and enforce OSHA safety programs while maintaining daily reports and progress documentation.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in site development or civil construction with field supervision.
• Knowledge of earthwork, utilities, grading and paving operations.
• Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specs, and geotechnical reports.
• OSHA 30 certification preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering is a plus.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee field management of assigned projects and supervise field staff.
• Plan, schedule, and supervise on-site construction activities for site development.
• Enforce OSHA safety programs and ensure compliance.
• Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and field labor.
• Develop and maintain short-interval schedule (2–3 week look-ahead).
• Conduct quality control inspections per drawings and specs.
• Coordinate procurement, RFIs, and change orders with Project Manager.
• Manage site logistics, laydown areas, and traffic/erosion control.
• Lead toolbox talks and safety meetings.
• Maintain daily reports and progress documentation.
• Interface with owners, inspectors, officials on-site.
• Mentor Assistant Superintendents and field staff.

The Senior Superintendent has primary responsibility for on-site managementassigned constructionprojectsas well as other Superintendents as assigned.This role ensures projects are built safely, on time, within budget, andin accordance withcontract documents.This position works closely with the SR Project Managerand Project Managerandreports toConstruction Manager

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Field Management of assigned Projects and Superintendents
• Plan, schedule, and supervise all on-site construction activities related to site development (mass grading, utilities, roadways, stormwater, paving, landscaping)
• Enforcejob-sitesafety programs and ensure full compliance with OSHA and company safety policie policy
• Manage and coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and field labor
• Develop andmaintainthe project’s short-interval schedule (2–3 week look-ahead)
• Conduct quality control inspections and ensure conformance with drawings, specs, and permits
• Coordinate with the Project Manager on procurement, RFIs, and change order impacts to the field
• Manage sitelogistics, laydown areas, and traffic/erosion control plans
• Lead daily toolbox talks and weekly safety meetings
• Maintain daily reports,manpowerlogs, and progress documentation
• Interface with owners, inspectors, and localjurisdictionofficials on-site
• Mentor Assistant Superintendents and field staff

QUALIFICATIONS

• 10+ years of experience in site development or civil construction, including field supervisory experience
• Strong knowledge of Sitework Operations to include earthwork, blasting,underground utilities (storm, sanitary, water), grading, and paving operations
• Proven ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports
• OSHA 30 certification preferred
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills
• High school diploma or equivalent required;Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field a plus

SALARY

$140,000 to $170,000
