Job summary

Diamondback Energy, Inc. seeks a Senior Geologist to join the Corporate Subsurface Risk Team within the Subsurface Injection Team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geosciences, Geophysics, Engineering Geology, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience as a geoscientist in oil and gas, injection, or a related subsurface field.
• Experience integrating geologic, geophysical, and engineering data into practical risk assessments and communicating risk to engineers and regulators.
• Working knowledge of pore pressure, wellbore stability, and basic geomechanics, with injection reservoir characterization or pressure modeling experience.
• Experience with regulatory frameworks in Permian or other basins with injection operations.
• Ability to work occasionally flexible hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays to support active operations.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain subsurface risk assessments for development AFE’s, pre-drill, pre-frac, and operational risk assessments.
• Lead geological support for production team and workover teams.
• Perform detailed well log correlation and stratigraphic picks to keep the regional framework accurate and current.
• Use geological and engineering data to assess shallow hazards and pressure risk.
• Assist in interpreting injection datasets and developing regional mapping workflows.
• Support operations and asset teams using multidisciplinary subsurface interpretation techniques.
• Support regulatory and midstream partners in permitting, protest workflows, and regulatory data submissions.
• Recommend and justify subsurface data acquisition programs and projects.
• Collaborate with data science to develop predictive tools, risk maps, and workflows integrating stratigraphic, structural, and geomechanical data.
• Support Midstream partners in understanding subsurface conditions affecting disposal capacity and field operations.
