Job summary

Diamondback Energy is seeking a Senior Geoscientist to reduce subsurface‑driven drilling and completions risk across its Permian Basin development program. This senior technical contributor will integrate geological, petrophysical, geomechanical and operational data to characterize uncertainty, forecast hazards and improve capital efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related Geoscience.
• Minimum five years of oil and gas geoscience experience.
• Strong grounding in subsurface interpretation and wellbore stability/pore pressure/fracture gradients.
• Ability to integrate complex datasets and develop predictive analytical methods.
• Ability to communicate technical findings to technical and management audiences.

Responsibilities

• Develop, calibrate and apply wellbore stability and geomechanical models with in‑situ stress, pore pressure and rock properties.
• Develop predictive workflows integrating subsurface and drilling performance data to identify hazards and quantify uncertainty.
• Lead multidisciplinary root cause analyses of drilling and completions irregularities and translate findings into mitigations.
• Prepare quantitative pre‑drill risk assessments using structural and stratigraphic interpretations and geomechanical models.
• Evaluate landing‑zone and target‑design alternatives with Asset Development and Reservoir Engineering.
• Recommend data acquisition options (e.g., LWD/MWD, borehole imaging, formation pressure) with cost‑benefit justification.
• Collaborate across geoscience, reservoir, drilling and completions to integrate interpretations and performance.
• Independently test interpretations; challenge assumptions and standardize scalable workflows.
• Provide backup geosteering and real‑time geological support during critical operations as needed.
• Elevate organizational geoscience capability through mentorship and knowledge transfer.
