Job summary

HDR is seeking a Substation Senior Structural Engineer to join our Power Delivery team. You will lead the structural design of high voltage substations up to 500kV, including steel framing, foundations, and integration with civil works.

This role requires at least 10 years of HV design experience, PE license or eligibility, and proficiency with STAAD, RAM, ETABS, and other industry tools. You will mentor junior engineers and coordinate across multi-location teams.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Structural Engineering required.
• Professional engineering license (PE) or ability to obtain (CA/HI a plus).
• Minimum 10 years of structural design experience for HV substation projects.
• Experience with steel, concrete, and foundation design.
• Knowledge of AISC-360, ASCE-7 and IEEE standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and review structural design tasks for substation projects.
• Develop calculations and detailing for fabrication.
• Design foundations including drilled piers and piles.
• Coordinate with civil/structural engineers and other teams.
• Provide technical guidance to project staff.
• Assist with developing technical papers or presentations.
