Senior Substation Protection & Control Engineer

Orbital is currently seeking a Senior Substation Protection & Control Engineer for a remote position within the Utility Services team. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of substation engineering experience and must hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Responsibilities
- Utilizes understanding of the NEC, NESC, NEMA, ANSI, IEEE, and other industry standard work practices, client standards, and/or other applicable guidelines to complete engineering designs.
- Provide technical support for client initiatives as a technical resource under the direction of an engineering supervisor.
- Work in a project team environment with other engineers and designers involved in detailed electrical design and project management of utility substation projects.
- Participate in project conceptualization, work planning, and project execution.
- Support pre-bid walkdowns with clients and prepare proposals and project estimates for new client projects.
- Prepare design packages of electrical substation systems including single lines, AC & DC schematic, wiring diagrams, AC and DC station service diagrams, communication diagrams, SCADA points lists and other relevant project deliverables.
- Perform standard substation calculations such as battery calculations, voltage drop, CT saturation and cable sizing calculations.
- Responsible for substation design drawings and package quality review.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university, or a related field with equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in protection and control design. Multiple levels of Sr. Engineer roles are possible depending on candidate experience
- Sr. Engineer I: 5-10 years' experience
- Sr. Engineer II: 7-12 years' experience
- Sr. Engineer III: 10-14 years' experience
- Sr. Engineer IV: 15+ years' experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) License is required.
- Strong attention to detail required.
- Ability to successfully work with remotely located team members.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively organize multiple assignments, complex assignments, and competing priorities to produce accurate products on time.
- Proficient with current computer applications including CAD systems, Microsoft applications, design and business enterprise software.
- Direct, proven expertise in high voltage projects with voltages up to 500kV is required.
- Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design Software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar.
- Capable of managing junior employees project tasks.
- Travel as required for client relationship and project needs.
- Willing to stamp projects where they are in responsible charge.
- This position requires the ability to pass a post-offer drug (including marijuana) and alcohol test in compliance with Federal regulations and is also subject to random testing as a condition of continued employment.
Location Note
This is a remote position. Compensation is based on market data and internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s location.
Salary Range
$97,000-192,000 annually (based on experience, qualifications, and location)
