Job summary

Ladders seeks a Lead Substation Protection and Control Engineer to guide design efforts for critical electrical infrastructure. You will work remotely with US-based teams and clients, driving technical quality, safety, and constructability across projects.

You will mentor a high-performing team while coordinating installation, testing, and commissioning activities to ensure successful delivery on schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of substation protection and control design experience.
• Experience leading and executing substation protection and control projects.
• Strong communication skills for internal and client interactions.
• Capable of meeting deadlines under pressure and guiding teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support substation protection and control design projects to ensure technical excellence.
• Create relay one-line diagrams defining protection zones and system topology.
• Develop AC schematics capturing current, voltage, and protection relationships.
• Produce DC control and protection schematics for substation equipment safety.
• Design control panels, wiring diagrams, and layouts for efficient construction.
• Build accurate BOMs aligned with project specifications and client needs.
• Perform QC checks on designs to ensure accuracy and safety.
• Provide technical guidance during installation, testing, and commissioning activities.

Job description

For our client, we are seeking a Lead Substation Protection and Control Engineer to join the team of a leader in the Technical Services space.

This role will lead substation protection and control design efforts across a range of projects, ensuring technical quality, safety, and constructability.

You will partner with internal teams and clients to develop detailed engineering deliverables that support installation, testing, and commissioning activities.

The position also offers the opportunity to guide a high-performing team while contributing to the successful delivery of critical electrical infrastructure work.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $107,900 – $195,050 annually

Responsibilities

• Lead and support substation protection and control design projects to ensure technical excellence
• Create and refine relay one-line diagrams defining protection zones and system topology
• Develop detailed AC schematics capturing current, voltage, and protection relationships
• Produce DC control and protection schematics for substation equipment safety
• Design control panels, wiring diagrams, and layouts for efficient construction
• Build accurate BOMs aligned with project specifications and client needs
• Perform QC checks on designs to ensure accuracy and safety
• Provide technical guidance during installation, testing, and commissioning activities
