Job summary

HDR, Inc. in Seattle, WA, seeks a Senior Substation Project Engineer to lead multi-disciplinary design of substations within the Power sector. You will coordinate engineers, manage client relations, and drive project execution from concept to completion.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's in Engineering, 10+ years of substation design, a PE license, and strong communication. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, and EasyPower is highly valued; mentoring staff is part of the role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
• Minimum 10 years of substation design experience.
• PE or P.E. license recognized by the local licensing board.
• Experience with yard layouts, grounding, lightning protection is preferred.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, EasyPower is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate design engineers across a multi-discipline team throughout the project.
• Establish client relations and participate in marketing, design, and production meetings.
• Assume technical lead within a project execution team.
• Participate in reviews with governing agencies for code compliance.
• Conduct design and development sessions at project sites with PM and other disciplines.
• Coordinate workload to meet deliverables and schedule.

In the role of Senior Substation Project Engineer, we’ll count on you to:

• Coordinate the work of design engineers with the balance of a multidiscipline team throughout the entire project's development
• Establish client relations and participate in marketing, design, and production meetings
• Assume technical lead within a project execution team
• Participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
• Conduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions at the project site in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines
• Coordinate workload throughout the project to complete project deliverables on schedule
• Work with Project Manager and Project Controller on project reviews with management as needed
• Direct the activities of other engineering professionals and act as a mentor to other staff members as needed
• Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
• 10+ years of substation design experience is preferred.
• Preference given to professionals with substation physical/outdoor design experience, including developing yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and associated bills of materials.
• Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm desired.
• Experience with industry software including: AutoCAD, Revit, Aspen, ETAP, EasyPower, etc.
• Experience preparing specifications and drawings, and other engineering documents.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering
• A minimum of 10 years of experience

Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.

• Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector
• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit)
