Job summary

HDR is a leading engineering firm delivering power infrastructure across the United States. This Substation Engineer role focuses on design coordination, code compliance, and project execution within the Power Market Sector.

You will coordinate design teams, review documents for conflicts, conduct QA/QC, and support construction management while thriving in our employee-owned culture and collaborative environment. Location options Spokane, WA and Bellevue/Seattle.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; PE license preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required or in process.
  • Experience in Power Market Sector project execution.
  • MS Office and design software proficiency: AutoCAD, PLS CAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, Revit.
  • Substation engineering experience, especially Protection & Controls, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the work of the power design team through schematic design, development and contract documents.
  • Establish meetings and participate in code compliance reviews with authorities.
  • Coordinate workload to complete deliverables on schedule.
  • Conduct site work sessions with Project Manager and other disciplines.
  • Review project documents for conflicts with other disciplines.
  • Write and edit project specifications.
  • Coordinate with disciplines on addenda, RFIs, COs and incorporate changes.
  • Provide construction contract administration as needed.
  • Conduct QA/QC on the work of others (engineers, coordinators, designers).
  • Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Substation Engineer, we'll count on you to:
  • Coordinate the work of the power design team through the schematic design development and contract document phase of a project
  • Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
  • Coordinate workload to complete the deliverable on schedule.
  • Conduct work sessions at the project site in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines
  • Review project documents for areas of conflict with other disciplines.
  • Write and edit project specifications
  • Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, requests for information (RFIs), change orders (COs), and take responsibility to incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents
  • Provide construction contract administration as needed
  • Conduct QA/QC on the work of other Engineers, Project Coordinators or Designers, or BIM Technicians as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Engineering
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector
  • Previous experience with an engineering consulting firm
  • Experience in Substation Engineering, with emphasis in Protection & Controls or Electrical Assembly.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software. (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit)
