Job summary

RES seeks a Sr. Estimator – Substation to prepare cost estimates for renewable energy and utility-grade substations, integrating labor, materials, equipment, and productivity costs across EPC and Bid-Build projects.

You will lead estimation teams, review RFPs, perform quantity take-offs, and coordinate with Preconstruction to ensure timely, competitive bids. Travel 5–15% may be required.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related area; OR High School with at least 2 years equivalent industry experience required.
• 5 years or more Estimating substation or high voltage systems
• 1 year or more Field-based construction experience preferred.
• Ability to travel 5-15%.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Experience with EPC and Balance of Plant (BOP) estimate structure for proposals.
• Experience with BESS DC/AC systems and transmission line construction desirable.
• Familiarity with design-build construction methods and detailed cost estimates.
• Ability to complete quantity take-offs from construction plans.
• Experience with estimating software; HeavyBid beneficial.
• Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, Word, Project, OneNote, Teams, SharePoint.
• Strong communication and negotiation with clients/subcontractors.
• Ability to travel to sites for condition reviews during proposals and construction.

Responsibilities

• Handle multiple complex project estimate assignments concurrently under minimal supervision.
• Lead or participate in a team of estimators for various Scopes of Work (SOWs).
• Review RFP documents to determine discipline scope and pricing elements.
• Collaborate with Preconstruction Manager for engineering support and deliverables.
• Distribute RFQs to vendors/subcontractors and analyze responses.
• Perform quantity take-offs for up to 500kV substations.
• Quantify resources and production rates for utility-scale substations.
• Gather market data to estimate construction, material and soft costs.
• Identify risks and document in the Risk Register.
• Coordinate alignment of estimates with project milestones and schedules.
