Job summary

GFT is seeking a Senior Substation Estimator / Cost Engineer to lead project cost estimates for major utility transmission and substation initiatives. The role can be remote with periodic travel to client offices and project sites, serving as the primary estimating resource on integrated teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, quantity surveying, business or related field preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of construction estimating experience.
• Minimum 5 years estimating electric utility, transmission, or substation projects.
• Experience with projects exceeding $10 million in construction value.
• Strong understanding of utility construction contracting practices.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual, preliminary and detailed estimates for utility transmission and substation projects.
• Prepare engineer’s estimates using drawings, specifications, vendor info and data.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for civil, structural, electrical, relay and commissioning work.
• Develop labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, indirect, escalation and contingency costs.
• Prepare basis documents, assumptions, exclusions and risk assessments.
