Job summary

Switchgear Magazine seeks a Supervising Substation Engineer to lead design teams in Austin, TX. You’ll oversee profitability, quality, and schedule performance while coordinating with construction and procurement on multiple projects.

The ideal candidate holds a PE, has 15+ years in the electrical power industry, and deep knowledge of 138 kV+ substations. Strong communication and leadership are essential for mentoring teams and meeting objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
• PE licensure with ability to obtain license in another state within one year.
• Minimum of 15 years in the electrical power industry with substation experience.
• Experience leading multi-discipline design teams.
• Strong knowledge of 138 kV and above substations and high-voltage components.
• Proficiency with NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
• Experience managing project schedules, budgets, and resources.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure projects meet quality, schedule, and profitability objectives.
• Supervise multiple project teams to deliver on-time completion.
• Assign projects to engineering teams based on requirements and staffing.
• Coordinate with construction and purchasing to meet milestones.
• Apply standard engineering practices and design progress tracking.
• Communicate with customer representatives and management.
• Prepare and track schedules and budgets.
• Lead or perform project engineering tasks to meet schedules.
• Ensure adherence to design documents and standards.
• Travel as required and maintain safety documentation.
