Job summary

MeshGrid HR is seeking an experienced substation physical design professional to support high‑voltage projects, renewable generation, and transmission upgrades. The role requires independent work, interpretation of evolving requirements, and practical engineering solutions while coordinating with protection, civil, structural, and power systems teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of high-voltage substation physical design experience.
• Strong AutoCAD capabilities, including 3D design.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate across project teams.
• Knowledge of utility design standards and practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop physical design packages for high‑voltage substations, including equipment arrangements, plans, sections, elevations, bus layouts, and related drawings.
• Create grounding, lightning protection, conduit, raceway, and cable‑routing layouts.
• Develop AutoCAD drawings and 3D substation models for preliminary and detailed design.
• Interpret utility standards, interconnection requirements, and client specifications and translate them into engineering deliverables.
• Coordinate designs with protection & control, civil, structural, transmission, and power systems teams.
• Support structural steel and foundation design coordination where required.
• Review engineering work produced by external consultants and other project contributors.
• Participate in client discussions, explain design assumptions, and respond to technical comments.
• Maintain quality, safety, code compliance, and constructability throughout the design process.
• Identify opportunities to improve design processes, templates, and engineering efficiency.
• Support junior team members and contribute to project planning as needed.

This role is well suited for someone who can work independently, interpret evolving project requirements, and develop practical engineering solutions while coordinating across multiple disciplines.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of high‑voltage substation physical design experience.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Strong AutoCAD capabilities, including experience with 3D design.
• Experience producing general arrangements, equipment layouts, and other substation physical design drawings.
• Working knowledge of high‑voltage equipment, substation configurations, and applicable design standards.
• Ability to manage assignments independently while coordinating effectively with project teams and clients.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with Inventor, Bentley, Revit, or other 3D engineering platforms.
• Renewable energy or utility interconnection substation experience.
• Exposure to transmission line design or substation structural steel.
• Consulting or EPC project experience.
• Experience coordinating subcontractors or multidisciplinary engineering teams.
