Job description

We have an immediate opportunity for a Senior Substation Engineer in Orange County. This is an excellent growth opportunity for a self-directed Electrical Engineer eager to take on new challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Responsible for knowledge and execution of the technical aspects and deliverables of projects.
2. Develop a partnership with the Project Manager (PM), who is responsible for scope, schedule, budget, and client management. This position will focus on the technical execution of the project.
3. Assign project tasks and provide technical guidance to project team members.
4. Coordinate and perform quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables according to Quality Management Systems requirements, processes, and procedures.
5. Perform quality checks and reviews of projects from other teams as needed.
6. Work independently and lead, mentor, and train Electrical Engineers, Graduate Engineers, and Drafters.
7. Manage multiple projects concurrently.
8. Assist in developing technical papers and presentations to showcase your technical capabilities at industry events.

Education and Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.
2. PE license required.
3. Over 10 years of technical experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects up to 765V, including conceptual knowledge of physical, electrical, civil, and structural design components, and familiarity with IEC, IEEE, ANSI, and other standards.
4. Experience in substation design, including layouts, plans, sections, grounding, lighting protection, control building arrangements, conduit plans, auxiliary power systems, and bill of materials.
5. Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Microsoft Office, and electrical design software.
6. Experience in distribution systems, substations, and power facilities design and engineering.
7. Experience in an architectural/engineering or consulting firm is desirable.
8. Experience working with electric utilities is a plus.
