Job Description

We have an immediate opportunity for a Substation Project Engineer in the Orange County Area. The Substation Project Engineer must understand and can complete all technical requirements of basic to moderate complexity substation projects.

Specific Duties:
  1. Developing design deliverables including substation physical layouts, material lists, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation grounding, and major equipment wiring diagrams.
  2. Preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports, and designs for electrical substations (Low, Medium, and High Voltage).
  3. Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing.
  4. Coordinate design activities with other departments (Civil, Structural, Transmission Line, etc.).
  5. Assign tasks and provide guidance to junior team members, and coordinate QC reviews for work performed by junior engineers and/or designers.
  6. Work with Senior Engineers and the Business Class Leader to identify and develop specific technical expertise; attend training and seminars to deepen understanding of complex concepts.
  7. Conduct quality control reviews of projects from other teams as needed.
  8. Work independently and potentially direct, mentor, train, and supervise less-experienced EITs and/or Designers.
  9. Perform site visits during design, construction, and as-built phases of projects.
  10. Perform other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of substation design experience, including indoor and outdoor experience, with emphasis on indoor projects.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Previous consulting firm experience preferred.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Strong commitment to our employee-owned culture.
  • PE certification.
  • Experience with industry design software including AutoCAD, MicroStation, and CDEGS.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
