Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Senior Substation Designer to deliver Protection & Control and Physical Design packages for AIS and GIS substations across utility, industrial, and data center projects. You will coordinate with engineers, project managers, clients and contractors through conceptual engineering to commissioning and support junior designers.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in engineering technology or related discipline.
• Minimum 12 years of substation design experience.
• Experience in P&C and Physical Design for AIS and GIS substations.
• Experience supporting substation projects from 12 kV through 500 kV.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or comparable design software.
• Strong understanding of NEC, NESC, IEEE standards and utility requirements.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and schedule commitments.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain complete P&C and physical design packages for utility and industrial substation projects.
• Prepare wiring diagrams, panel layouts, relay panel arrangements, and SCADA wiring drawings.
• Develop cable schedules and routing plans; size breakers and fuses.
• Create station one-line diagrams, general arrangement drawings, and equipment layouts.
• Coordinate design development across disciplines and with clients and contractors.
• Review design standards, calculations, and vendor drawings for quality and compliance.
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior designers and drafters.
