Job summary

The Planet Group is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to lead design deliverables for high-voltage substations from concept through completion in Houston, TX. You will guide layout, protective relaying, electrical studies, and equipment specifications while managing schedules and budgets to meet client expectations.

Ideal candidates have a ABET-accredited degree, 7 years of relevant experience (PE preferred), strong communication and leadership skills, and the ability to apply advanced

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field with 7 years of substation project experience; consulting experience preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and general software.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of design deliverables for high-voltage substations.
• Manage substation projects from conceptual phase through completion.
• Develop design packages including physical arrangement, protective relaying, and electrical studies.
• Prepare design calculations, BOMs, and equipment specifications.
• Ensure compliance with IEEE, NESC, and other standards.
• Conduct field inspections of substation facilities.
• Coordinate with project team and clients to ensure QA/QC compliance.
• Prepare proposals with schedule and budget estimates.
