Job summary

Begell House Inc. in Springfield, Oregon seeks a Senior Substation Design Engineer to lead design of customer-owned substations up to 230 kV for industrial and independent power generation facilities.

This full-time role focuses on conceptual layouts, one-line development, and issued-for-construction drawings with field support. The position requires a PE license, 10+ years in substation design, and strong leadership.

Qualifications

• B.S.E.E. with emphasis in electrical power systems from an accredited program.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (Electrical).
• At least ten years of senior-level electrical engineering experience, mostly in substation design.
• Strong substation physical design and grounding grid experience.
• Knowledge of high-voltage equipment and protection & control.

Responsibilities

• Serve as lead engineer for substation design projects from concept to issued-for-construction drawings.
• Develop substation physical designs including general arrangement and layouts.
• Perform grounding grid design and analysis, including shielding and lightning protection.
• Specify and evaluate high-voltage equipment and switchgear.
• Design substation protection and control packages and relay coordination studies.
• Coordinate designs with other disciplines and utility requirements.
• Prepare drawings, documentation, and material lists.
• Provide on-site support during construction and energization.
• Mentor junior staff and support sales/estimating activities.
