The ideal candidate has experience with structural steel fabrication, fit-up, and welding, with the ability to read weld symbols and dimensions, and work independently or as part of a team.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in structural steel fabrication, fitting, or welding.
• Ability to read and understand structural steel shop drawings.
• Ability to read weld symbols and fabrication dimensions.
• Strong understanding of structural steel fit-up and assembly.
• Ability to accurately measure and lay out steel components.
• Ability to safely operate fabrication tools and equipment.
• Basic understanding of material identification and piece-marking systems.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret structural steel shop drawings, weld symbols, weld maps, and dimensions.
• Identify and verify materials, piece marks, dimensions, and quantities before fabrication.
• Lay out, measure, cut, fit, tack, and weld structural steel components.
• Accurately position and align components using layout tools and equipment.
• Make proper weld preparations and ensure components are properly fitted before welding.
• Perform structural welding using MIG welding processes.
• Produce welds that meet quality standards and project specifications.
• Inspect completed work for dimensions, alignment, weld quality, and workmanship.
• Operate overhead cranes and forklifts when needed.
