Job summary

Red Dot is seeking a Structural Steel Fabricator / Fitter-Welder to accurately fit, assemble, and weld structural steel components per shop drawings. The role requires reading drawings, laying out and fitting steel members, and performing quality welds while safely operating fabrication equipment.

The ideal candidate has experience in structural steel fabrication, a commitment to quality, and the ability to complete projects with minimal supervision in a fast-paced shop setting.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret structural steel shop drawings, weld symbols, weld maps, and dimensions.
• Identify and verify materials, piece marks, dimensions, and quantities before fabrication.
• Lay out, measure, cut, fit, tack, and weld structural steel components.
• Accurately position and align components using layout tools and equipment.
• Make proper weld preparations and ensure components are properly fitted before welding.
• Perform structural welding using MIG for welding. Red Dot utilizes .045 MIG.
• Produce welds that meet quality standards and project specs.
• Inspect completed work for proper dimensions, alignment, fit-up, weld quality, and overall workmanship.
• Make necessary adjustments to fabricated assemblies.
• Operate overhead cranes and forklifts when needed.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Follow safety policies and OSHA requirements.
• Use PPE correctly and coordinate with team.

Description

The Structural Steel Fabricator / Fitter-Welder is responsible for accurately fitting, assembling, and welding structural steel components according to approved shop drawings, specifications, and production requirements. This position requires the ability to read and understand structural steel drawings, lay out and fit steel members, perform quality welds, and safely operate fabrication equipment.

Position Title

Requirements

• Previous experience in structural steel fabrication, fitting, or welding.
• Ability to read and understand structural steel shop drawings.
• Ability to read weld symbols and fabrication dimensions.
• Strong understanding of structural steel fit-up and assembly.
• Ability to accurately measure and lay out steel components.
• Ability to safely operate fabrication tools and equipment.
• Basic understanding of material identification and piece-marking systems.

• Reliable attendance and dependable work habits.

Preferred

• 2+ years of structural steel fabrication experience.
• Previous experience as a fitter/welder in a structural steel fabrication shop.
• Welding certifications such as AWS D1.1 or equivalent.
• Experience fitting beams and other structural steel assemblies.
• Experience working from detailed structural steel fabrication drawings.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and move materials and tools as required.
• Ability to work around heavy steel, welding equipment, cranes, and other industrial equipment.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing/shop environment with exposure to noise, heat, dust, fumes, and varying temperatures.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including welding hood, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and other protective equipment.
