Job summary

KPFF Consulting Engineers is seeking an experienced Structural Project Engineer to lead design efforts on commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects in Sacramento. You will own project delivery from concept through construction, serving as primary client contact and mentoring junior staff.

You will apply your expertise to deliver safe, code-compliant solutions while coordinating with architects, MEP engineers, and contractors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering; Master’s degree preferred
• PE license
• At least six years of relevant full-time experience in structural engineering design, with a track record of leading projects independently
• Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, ETABS, SAP2000)
• Solid understanding of structural engineering principles, mechanics, and materials
• Knowledge of building codes, standards, and construction practices
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for clear project documentation and collaboration
• Proven ability to lead projects and teams independently while collaborating effectively across disciplines

Responsibilities

• Lead structural analysis and design on projects of varying scale and complexity
• Own the development of structural drawings, specifications, and technical documentation, ensuring full compliance with applicable codes and standards
• Conduct site assessments and evaluations to identify structural requirements and potential challenges
• Lead coordination with multidisciplinary teams including architects, MEP engineers, and contractors, driving project alignment and successful execution
• Review and approve construction documents, shop drawings, and submittals for structural compliance, providing clear and timely feedback
• Manage construction administration independently, providing technical guidance and resolving on-site structural issues with confidence and authority
• Optimize structural designs for cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and constructability
• Keep project files and documentation organized and audit-ready
• Keep pace with evolving building codes, industry standards, and best practices, and bring that knowledge into your daily work
• Present technical findings and recommendations clearly to clients, team members, and stakeholders
• Serve as the primary client contact on assigned projects, building trusted relationships and managing expectations through clear, proactive communication
• Manage project scope, schedule, and budget, coordinating with project managers to keep deliverables on track and within fee
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and Engineering Designers, reviewing their work and supporting their technical development
• Support business development efforts including proposal writing, client presentations, and identifying opportunities to expand existing client relationships
