Mott MacDonald invites applications for a Senior Engineer based in Portland, OR. You will lead technical design for transportation and infrastructure projects, collaborating with teams across offices and disciplines on bridges, retaining walls, and other civil structures.

The role emphasizes mentoring junior staff, coordinating with clients, and delivering digital-by-default deliverables while working in a hybrid office model with regular site visits.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• 10+ years of structural engineering experience.
• Experience with AASHTO, AREMA, ASCE, and CBC design codes and standards.
• Experience with seismic analysis and design.
• Proficiency in designing structures and foundations using concrete and steel.
• A methodical problem-solving approach with independent work capability.
• Strong verbal communication skills for clients and teams across regions.
• Excellent technical writing and attention to detail in drawings/reports.
• Strong teamwork and collaboration across distributed teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed final designs using industry-standard analysis and design software.
• Actively participate in project, client, and team meetings.
• Mentor junior staff.
• Review, prepare, and modify designs.
• Analyze and prepare type studies, reports, specifications, quantities, and estimates.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams across offices.
• Attend onsite meetings across project locations.
• Gaining exposure to project, commercial, and client management.
• Undertake a digital-by-default approach in deliverables.
