Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Engineer in the US West Coast to lead structural design for transportation projects, with strong codes experience and SE/PE readiness. The role emphasizes collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams and client interaction.

Based in a Bay Area office with a hybrid working model, the ideal candidate will mentor staff, advance seismic design compliance, and deliver high-quality reports and drawings using standard software tools.

Qualifications

• ABET accredited civil or structural engineering degree.
• California PE license or ability to obtain within one year.
• Experience with AASHTO, Caltrans, AREMA, ASCE, and CBC design codes and standards.
• California seismic analysis and design experience.
• Strong communication, team collaboration, and independent problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs using industry-standard analysis and design software.
• Participate actively in meetings with project teams and clients.
• Mentor junior staff and review designs for accuracy.
• Review, prepare, and modify designs as project needs evolve.
• Prepare reports, specifications, quantities, and estimates.
• Coordinate work with technicians and other discipline professionals.
• Attend on-site meetings and engage with project management and clients.
• Adopt a digital-by-default approach in deliverables.
• Support the company purpose through technical excellence and integrity.
