Job summary

WSP, a leading global professional services firm, seeks a Lead Structural Engineer (Generation) in Houston, TX, to design foundations and structures for solar farms, energy storage, substations, and large power projects. The role involves coordinating with drafters, interfacing with clients, and occasional site travel (5%-10%).

A PE license and 7+ years of relevant experience are required. Proficiency in MicroStation, AutoCAD, RISA, and STADD is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• 7+ years of post-education experience in structural or civil design
• PE license
• Proficient with structural engineering principles and project applications
• Knowledge of structural/civil construction laws, codes and regulations
• Experience with power generation, transmission, and distribution projects
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Proficient in design software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, RISA, STADD)
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
• Experience coordinating subcontractors and site interfaces
• Knowledge of geotechnical engineering and pre-engineered metal buildings
• Experience with seismic analysis and design
• Commitment to safety and company policies
• Willingness to travel 5%-10% as needed
• Open to longer field assignments 1–18 months

Responsibilities

• Design light foundations and structures for solar farms, storage facilities, and substations
• Design heavy foundations and structures for large power projects
• Design structural steel systems for buildings and platforms
• Coordinate design requirements with drafters/designers
• Travel to clients/sites to interface and monitor progress (5-10%)
• Interacting with regulators, subcontractors, and clients professionally
• Collaborate with engineers on projects and business development opportunities
• Adhere to the Code of Conduct and company policies
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
