Job summary

Kiewit Nuclear Solutions in Itasca, IL is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Design Engineering team. You will lead the design of structures, foundations, equipment platforms, and supporting documentation for nuclear and industrial projects across North America, using FE methods and industry codes.

The role requires 12–15 years in structural design, PE registration, and strong tool proficiency (ANSYS, SAP2000, GT STRUDL, STAAD Pro, LS-Dyna).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering; Master’s is an asset.
• PE registration in at least one state is required.
• 12–15 years of structural design experience in nuclear, conventional power or industrial sectors.
• 3–5 years of nuclear sector experience is desired.
• Expert in structural mechanics and finite element applications.
• Proficient with North American design codes (IBC, ASCE7, ASCE 4, ASCE 43, ACI 318, ACI 349, AISC360, AISC N690).
• Familiar with NRC regulations and DOE requirements; seismic design experience essential.
• Excellent communication and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to travel (<25%) for projects and training.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams of engineers and mentor junior staff.
• Perform static and dynamic analyses with FE tools.
• Design foundations, buildings, pipe racks, and support structures.
• Prepare quantities, cost estimates, and documentation.
• Ensure compliance with QA and project change control.
• Interface with designers, other disciplines, and stakeholders.
• Support project delivery within budget and schedule.
