Job summary

Kiewit Nuclear Solutions in Itasca, IL, is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing nuclear team. You will lead design and analysis of buildings, foundations, equipment platforms, and piping supports, guiding junior staff and coordinating with other disciplines.

The role requires PE registration, 12–15 years of structural design experience in nuclear or related sectors, and proficiency with ANSYS, SAP2000, GT STRUDL, STAAD Pro, and LS-Dyna.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (Master’s is an asset).
• PE registration in at least one state.
• 12–15 years of structural engineering design experience in nuclear, conventional power or industrial building sectors.
• Deep knowledge of mechanics of materials, structural behavior and finite element method applications.
• In-depth knowledge of North American design codes: IBC, ASCE7, ASCE 4, ASCE 43, ACI 318, ACI 349, AISC360, AISC N690.
• Familiarity with US NRC regulations and DOE requirements.
• Seismic design and analysis experience (equivalent static, response spectrum).
• Excellent communication and teamwork; travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects and mentor junior engineers.
• Perform static and dynamic analyses using industry tools.
• Design buildings, foundations, equipment platforms, pipe racks, and structures.
• Prepare quantities, cost estimates, and design criteria documents.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and QA adherence.
• Coordinate with designers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Support project delivery within budget and schedule.
• Interface with stakeholders and review drawings before sealing.
