Job summary

HDR is seeking a Senior Hydraulic Structures Engineer in Baton Rouge, LA to tackle complex building-design challenges. You will lead design activities, mentor a medium to large team of professionals, and step into project management on major projects where appropriate.

The role emphasizes technical excellence in structural analysis, code compliance, and collaboration across disciplines within HDR’s employee‑owned culture. An PE license and 10+ years in the field are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience related to building design.
• Professional engineering license recognized by the relevant licensing board (e.g., PE, P.Eng).
• Experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE, or similar analytical software.
• Experience in design calculations and layout development.
• Ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.
• Understanding of gravity and lateral analysis.
• Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
• Commitment to active participation in HDR’s employee‑owned culture.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical expert in structural engineering, addressing complex and large‑scale problems.
• Plan and develop projects and design activities.
• Organize and supervise work of medium to large staff of professionals and technicians.
• Act as Project Manager on larger projects, though project management is not the sole focus.
• Perform additional duties as required.
