Job summary

GFT, a privately held AEC firm, seeks a Structural Engineer for our New York, NY office. You will lead structural design efforts, develop clear drawings, and perform calculations for projects across the Greater New York/New Jersey area, collaborating with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with structural emphasis.
• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis or Master’s in Structural Engineering.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 4 to 8 years of progressive structural design experience.
• Proficiency in structural analysis and design using software and hand calculations (ETABS, SAP2000, RAM Structural System, STAAD).
• Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and MicroStation.
• Solid understanding of building codes (AISC, ACI, ASCE).
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Lead structural design efforts for assigned project elements, independent assignments, or major portions of larger projects.
• Develop and/or oversee the production of comprehensive structural drawings with clarity and precision, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards, utilizing Revit, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
• Perform and review engineering calculations using both software tools and hand calculations to analyze and design structural elements such as beams, columns, foundations, and lateral systems.
• Conduct gravity and lateral system analysis for low- to mid-rise building projects.
• Evaluate and analyze existing structures for retrofits and rehabilitations.
• Conduct field inspections for facilities and transit-related structures as required.
• Utilize industry-standard software such as ETABS, SAP2000, RAM Structural System, RAM Concept, STAAD, Mathcad, and TEDDS for structural analysis and design.
• Support the development of scope, schedule, and budget for structural engineering tasks.
• Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in a professional and productive manner.
• Engage in client interactions by participating in meetings to understand project requirements, present design solutions, and address any concerns.
