Job summary

WSP in Honolulu, HI is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead complex structural tasks across buildings and infrastructure. You will analyze site data, develop plans, and supervise design work while mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with cross-functional teams.

You will apply RAM Concept and ETABS to model and optimize designs, ensuring safety, compliance, and efficiency across multiple concurrent projects with a strong emphasis on QA/QC.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in structural or civil engineering.
  • 5–7 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering or structural design.
  • Engineer in Training certification.
  • Proficient knowledge of structural engineering principles and design/build applications.
  • Experience with design and construction management, including rehabilitation and new design projects.
  • Working knowledge of construction laws, codes, regulations, and record-keeping.
  • Ability to perform technical computations and interpret plans and specs.
  • Project management experience with small to mid-size projects and scheduling inspections.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Self-leadership, attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization.
  • Ability to guide junior team members with QA/QC adherence.
  • Proficiency with RAM Concept, ETABS, and related design software.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving to derive economical solutions from data.
  • Ability to direct subcontractors to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of workplace safety and policy adherence.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Determine methods for collecting and analyzing data from sites, surveys, blueprints, and geotechnical data for project development.
  • Perform professional structural engineering work and inspect proposed and existing site conditions for conformance with rules and permits.
  • Develop construction plans and specifications.
  • Incorporate advanced modeling and design requirements to ensure safety and functionality for end-users.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, planners, and professionals on multiple projects.
  • Prepare data visualizations, tables, charts, and 2D/3D illustrations for presentations.
  • Maintain quality control standards for measurements, analysis, and reporting.
  • Assist in development and scoping of medium-sized projects and guide entry-level engineers.
