Job summary

Buro Happold in Boston, MA, is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our hybrid engineering team. You will design structural systems for bold steel and concrete buildings across the US and globally, collaborating closely with disciplines to deliver high-quality projects.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of innovative structural design experience, a PE license, experience with US codes and seismic design, and proficiency in BIM tools such as REVIT.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in innovative structural building engineering design.
• P.E. license required; Structural Engineer (S.E.) a plus.
• Thorough knowledge of US Building Codes with seismic design expertise.
• Experience with steel, concrete and mass timber structures.

Responsibilities

• Undertake detailed engineering design for gravity and lateral systems of building structures.
• Take the lead in managing project development and deliverables with the team.
• Review project work and deliverables to meet quality standards and schedules.
• Guide and develop less experienced team members to achieve project success.
• Create 3D structural analysis models using RAM, SAP, ETABS, SAFE.
• Set up and review administrative systems including resourcing and expenditure.
• Attend and participate in client meetings and design team coordination.

This role will typically analyze and design structural systems for steel and concrete buildings using the appropriate building codes and be in close collaboration with other disciplines within a multi-discipline environment.

As a key part of the team, your responsibilities will be varied but will broadly include:

• Undertake detailed engineering design for gravity and lateral systems of building structures
• Take the lead in managing project development and deliverables with the team
• Reviewing project work and deliverables to meet expected high levels of quality against project schedules
• Guide and help develop less experienced team members in order to achieve project success and team goals
• Create 3D structural analysis models using commercial software, including RAM, SAP, ETABS, SAFE, etc
• Set up, manage and review job/project administrative systems, including planning and monitoring job resourcing/expenditure
• Under guidance of project leadership, attend and participate in meetings with the client, and other design team members

Your skills and experience

• 5+ years of experience of innovative structural building engineering design
• Professional Engineer (P.E.)
• Structural Engineer (S.E.) is a plus
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of US Building Codes and Professional Standards with expertise in seismic design
• Broad structural design knowledge from working on a wide range of projects
• Experience with wide range of material, including the design of steel, concrete and mass timber building structures
• Confident and proactive character with ability to accept a high degree of responsibility in a team-based organization, combined with ability to work independently
• Experience in Performance-based seismic design and Seismic devices (base isolation, hysteretic / viscous dampers, etc.) is a plus
• Good working experience with BIM tools such as REVIT
• Passion for sustainability and reducing the environmental impact on projects
• Experience with or willing to learn computation design methods, using Rhino, Grasshopper is a plus

• Salary range of $95,000 to $115,000. This will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience
