Job summary

Dewberry's Fairfax, VA office seeks a Structural Discipline Manager to lead a team of engineers and designers on diverse projects across Virginia, NC, and MD. You will mentor and grow staff, oversee resource allocation, and ensure design deliverables meet schedules and budgets.

The role requires a Civil/Structural Engineering background, PE licensure or eligibility, and strong knowledge of codes. You’ll collaborate with multi-discipline teams, support business development, and drive design

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is required.
• Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is preferred.
• 15+ years of experience as a Licensed Professional Engineer or eligible for licensure.
• Experience in the design process and deliverables through construction close-out.
• Strong knowledge of the International Building Code and related structural codes.
• Experience coordinating engineering work with other disciplines and clients.
• Familiarity with Revit and/or AutoCAD.
• Experience with RAM, RAM Elements, STAAD, Enercalc, TEDDS, or Tekla.
• Proficiency in MS Office; team-oriented and self-motivated.
• Experience with Design/Build projects is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Grow, mentor, develop, and organize staff for career advancement and quality client service.
• Manage resources for the discipline area, including staff assignments and priorities.
• Ensure on-schedule and on-budget design deliverables.
• Recruit staff through networking, interviews, and deal closing.
• Work with the design team across offices and disciplines to generate construction documents.
• Provide technical guidance and quality oversight for the discipline area.
• Provide on-the-spot technical advice and decisions.
• Serve as Structural Engineer of Record for various structures.
• Establish and improve standards for the discipline area.
• Monitor schedules and budgets and communicate progress to project managers.
• Participate in business development and client relationship management.
• Discipline managers control resources and accountability for deliverables.
