Job summary

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is seeking a Structural Designer III for power generation and industrial projects in Birmingham, AL. You will develop construction-ready structural designs for steel and concrete, supporting gas turbines, substations, and transmission systems.

This contract position (9–12 months with extension potential) offers competitive pay, overtime at time-and-a-half, per diem, field verification, and opportunities to mentor junior designers while coordinating with civil,

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Engineering Technology, CAD, or related field.
• 5+ years of structural design/drafting experience.
• Experience in industrial, energy, or infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with EPC environments or multidisciplinary project teams.
• Strong understanding of structural steel and concrete detailing.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD (required), Revit, Navisworks, or similar 3D tools (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Develop construction drawings and structural deliverables for steel and concrete systems.
• Interpret project scope, specifications, and design criteria.
• Review and incorporate vendor and interdisciplinary layouts into structural designs.
• Support material take-offs (MTOs), cost estimates, and preliminary studies.
• Perform field investigations to verify site conditions, clearances, and constructibility.
• Coordinate with civil, mechanical, and electrical teams for integrated design.
• Review and check drawings from other designers and vendors for accuracy and compliance.
• Support construction activities, including site visits and field issue resolution.
• Assist with scheduling and task planning to meet project deadlines.
• Mentor junior designers and support team development.
