Job description

PURPOSE

At BFS, the Senior Structural Designer independently coordinates the design and completion of layouts of residential roof and floor systems for pricing and manufacturing, while performing analyses to meet technical requirements and customer goals. This role involves regular interaction with customers, providing expert recommendations, and representing the company in design, purchase, and construction processes. The position requires proactive analysis, discretion, and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Represent the company in design, purchase, and construction of residential roof and floor systems.
• Perform analyses and produce layouts independently.
• Evaluate customer needs and technical requirements through daily interaction, review layouts, and provide advice.
• Develop design details from customer drawings.
• Select design materials, produce material lists, and perform structural alterations as needed.
• Oversee construction documents, management, and contracts, determining special notes for contracts.
• Present, coordinate, and follow-up on new jobs.
• Discuss changes with engineers, architects, and contractors during construction.
• Ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
• Develop solutions within budget and schedule constraints.
• Design roof and floor systems, review layouts with customers, and perform site inspections.
• Resolve architectural and design discrepancies proactively.
• Develop and recommend new policies or procedures.
• Assist in training new associates and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform other relevant duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree or applicable work experience.
• 4+ years of drafting experience in construction or building materials industry.

COMPETENCIES

• Technical writing and communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and other design software; MITEK knowledge is a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Combination of office and outdoor work, with physical ability to lift up to 80 pounds occasionally.
