Position Summary:

At BFS, the Senior Structural Designer independently coordinates the design and completion of layouts of residential roof and floor systems for pricing and manufacturing, performing analyses to meet technical requirements and customer goals. This role involves regular interaction with customers, providing expert recommendations, and representing the company in the design, purchase, and construction of residential roof and floor systems. It requires proactive analysis, discretion, and independent judgment.

What You'll Do:

• Serve as the company's representative in designing, purchasing, and constructing residential roof and floor systems.
• Perform analyses and produce layouts for residential roof and floor systems independently.
• Evaluate customer needs and technical requirements, review layouts, and provide expert advice.
• Develop design details from customer drawings.
• Select design materials, produce materials lists, and perform structural alterations as needed.
• Oversee construction design documents and contracts, determining special notes for contracts.
• Present, coordinate, sell, and follow up on new jobs.
• Discuss changes with engineers, architects, and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
• Develop solutions within budget and schedule constraints.
• Design systems, review layouts with customers, and perform site inspections.
• Resolve architectural discrepancies and develop new policies and procedures.
• Assist in training new associates and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform other significant duties as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or applicable work experience.
• 4+ years drafting experience in construction or building materials industry.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Tech-savvy with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and other design programs.
• MITEK software knowledge is a plus.

Work Environment / Physical Activity:

• Combination of office and outdoor work, with weather variations.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 80 pounds.
