Job summary

ARCXIS in Houston, TX is seeking a full-time Structural Designer to produce code-compliant structural designs for residential buildings. The role requires fluency in AutoCAD/BricsCAD and the ability to deliver designs with tight timelines.

Experience with wood, steel, and concrete framing is preferred, as is familiarity with HVAC/mechanical coordination. You will work with an energetic team in a growing office, mentoring junior staff and ensuring quality through all project stages.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of structural design experience or equivalent.
• Proficient in CAD (AutoCAD/BricsCAD/2D drawings)
• Excellent communication skills with internal and external customers.
• Working knowledge of structural load calculations and building codes.
• Experience designing wood-framed structures, including conventional stick framing.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with internal teams and external customers.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
• H.S. Education or equivalent. Trade school experience or certification in CAD preferred.
• Willingness to work overtime as business needs require.

Responsibilities

• Prepares structural designs and construction documents for assigned projects.
• Identifies design discrepancies and requests revisions from project stakeholders.
• Ensures designs comply with codes, standards, and project requirements.
• Performs peer reviews and quality checks of other designers' work.
• Maintains communication with internal departments and external customers during design.
• Completes projects accurately within established schedules.
• Uses QA checklists to ensure quality plans delivered to clients.
• Mentor junior drafters and provide redlines.
• Independently produce floor framing plans and sections for low-to-mid complexity projects.
• Develop complex foundation details coordinating with engineers.
