Job summary

Acutronic is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer Structural Analyst to develop and optimize structural models for components and systems, ensuring designs meet project specifications while applying cost-benefit analyses to use materials efficiently. Based in Pittsburgh, PA.

The role requires performing FEA analyses, handling static/dynamic/seismic/wind/thermal loads, interpreting military specs, collaborating with design teams, overseeing prototypes, documenting results, and mentoring junior

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• Master's degree or higher is preferred.
• At least seven years of experience in a related field is required.
• Experience with FEA and ANSYS Workbench/APDL is expected.
• Solid understanding of structural dynamics and vibrations and their effects on multi-degree-of-freedom motion systems.
• Proficiency with numerical methods and MATLAB/MathCAD is required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct structural analysis using FEA to assess design viability.
• Perform load calculations for static, dynamic, seismic, wind, and thermal loads.
• Interpret Military Specifications and design practices, and material standards to ensure compliance.
• Develop and optimize structural models for components and systems to meet project specifications.
• Collaborate with design engineers and project managers to integrate structural considerations; prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders.
• Oversee prototype testing and validate simulation results against real-world data.
• Implement cost-benefit analyses to achieve efficient use of materials without compromising performance.
• Update and maintain databases of material properties and structural test data.
• Research emerging materials and innovative structural concepts for project enhancement.
• Train junior engineers or interns in analytical approaches and software tools.
