General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) is seeking a Staff Stress Engineer for the Airframe Integrity Group in Poway, CA.

You will determine approaches to resolve complex engineering problems and present results to engineering staff across the organization. The role supports structural analysis of aircraft components and systems, performs loads and fatigue analyses, and reports results for airworthiness certification.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or a related technical discipline with progressive experience.
• Must be familiar with stress, dynamics, fracture, fatigue and damage tolerance analysis of metal and composite structures.
• Working knowledge with NASTRAN or ABAQUS software is required.

Responsibilities

• Supports operation of engineering systems by evaluating needs and problems and developing effective approaches to resolving those issues.
• Perform structural analysis of aircraft components, assemblies, and systems as part of a design team.
• Conduct loads, stress, fatigue, and vibration analyses.
• Evaluate structural integrity of aircraft structures using hand methods and finite element analysis.
• Generate documentation to report analysis and test results for airworthiness certification.
• Proficiency with FAA and Mil-Spec airworthiness requirements; Matlab, Excel and Visual Basic advantageous.
