Job summary

GiveWell is hiring a Senior Communications Officer, Media & Public Affairs to lead the organization’s representation in media and public conversations. You will set strategy, hire and develop a team, and own end-to-end external communications in fast-moving situations.

You’ll partner with senior leaders, build trusted journalist relationships, and shape external perspectives while maintaining GiveWell’s data-driven, transparent communication standards.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in media relations, thought leadership, and public engagement.
• Hands-on leader who has built and developed teams.
• Experience advising executives and senior decision-makers directly.
• Strong alignment with GiveWell’s mission and values, including transparency and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Set and execute GiveWell’s media strategy across earned channels and events.
• Build and maintain high-trust relationships with journalists and thought leaders.
• Identify and pitch compelling stories and opportunities to extend understanding of GiveWell’s work.
• Prepare leaders for interviews, speaking engagements, and public appearances.
• Lead readiness for sensitive or fast-moving situations and coordinate external responses.
