Job summary

The City of Garland is seeking a Sr. Environmental Compliance Specialist to perform routine investigations and inspections, ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local environmental laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations.

This role requires conducting stormwater inspections, taking enforcement actions, responding to emergencies, and communicating complex environmental requirements to contractors and the public.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 30 semester hours in environmental fields; 3 years related experience.
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience to perform essential functions.

Responsibilities

• Perform stormwater inspections to verify compliance with laws and ordinances.
• Conduct enforcement actions and represent the city in court when needed.
• Issue citations or suspend operations for noncompliance.
• Respond to on-call emergencies related to illicit discharges.
• Inspect and eliminate illicit discharges to the MS4 and watercourses.
• Conduct dry and wet weather screening for contamination.
• Engage in community outreach and educational events.
• Interpret environmental laws for contractors and the public.
• Work outdoors frequently and assist in related tasks.
