Job summary

City of Dallas is hiring an Environmental Specialist II to inspect facilities, investigate compliance, and support permit requirements for municipal water, stormwater, and other programs. You will perform regular inspections, respond to spills, collect samples, and prepare detailed reports.

The role demands advanced knowledge of environmental regulations, strong data analysis using Power BI, GIS and Excel, and the ability to train colleagues.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of hands-on experience performing environmental inspections.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record.
• Forty (40)-hour HAZWOPER certification within probationary period.
• CESCP certification and Boater Certificate within probationary period for Stormwater Neighborhood division.
• Class D Water license from TCEQ and Boater Certificate within probationary period for Water Quality division.

Responsibilities

• Provides mid-level expertise on complex environmental evaluations, inspections, and reviews city services and utilities; investigates complaints, performs regular inspections, and files compliance reports for environmental agencies.
• Monitors spills, investigates causes, ensures proper cleanup, and documents incident reports.
• Inspects sites/facilities for environmental compliance; reviews waste storage, water facilities, and stormwater activities; communicates issues and coordinates mitigation.
• Prepares and files extensive reports on inspection activities and findings; documents non-compliance and shares data with stakeholders.
• Applies environmental policies to meet city expectations; provides training and ongoing education to staff.
• Responds to 24-hour emergency service requests and documents investigations.
• Supports senior environmental specialists in leading investigations and coordinates with committees.
• Performs other work as needed.
