Nature of Work: The Senior Stormwater Engineer is responsible for leading MDTA’s stormwater asset program, including small drainage, stormwater management (SWM) facilities, and drainage outfalls. The position involves planning and managing remedial projects to align with MDTA’s strategic goals and comply with relevant standards and regulations. Strong knowledge of hydraulics, hydrology, erosion, sediment controls, and stormwater management practices is required.

  • Inventory, inspect, assess, and monitor stormwater assets, investigate concerns/complaints, and develop engineering solutions.
  • Prepare plans, reports, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Supervise consultants, technicians, and administrative staff, and manage consultant tasks.
  • Coordinate with MDTA’s GIS, Engineering, Operations, and Construction teams.
  • Support compliance with stormwater requirements, including NPDES MS4 permits, TMDL Chesapeake Bay goals, and other permits.

This position reports directly to the Environmental Discipline Manager. The current vacancy is in Baltimore, MD, with potential hybrid telework options.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a Maryland Professional Engineer license, or the ability to obtain one within 12 months of appointment.
  • One year of managing engineering projects as a licensed professional engineer.
  • Two years of water resources or environmental engineering experience related to highway drainage, stormwater management, erosion controls, or stream restoration.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Current out-of-state PE license acceptable if the applicant will obtain Maryland licensure within 12 months.
  • Valid Maryland Driver’s License required; license number and expiration date must be listed.
