Job description

Job Objective: Assist customers with their shopping needs. Check out customers when their shopping experience is completed.Oversee thrift store clerks as assigned or in the absence of a store manager.Complete other management level duties as assigned or in the absence of store management.



Essential Functions:



  • Assist customers as needed



  • Maintain good customer relations



  • Provide prompt and courteous assistance to customers



  • Complete all duties of management the store in the absence of the Store Managers.



  • Oversee scheduling of Store Clerks



  • Oversee banking and monetary duties



  • Supervise Store Clerks



  • Assign daily tasks to Store Clerks



  • Represent The Salvation Army as needed in community partnerships



  • Maintain communications with outside resources



  • Oversee and direct volunteers



  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Store Manager



Minimum Qualifications


Education: High school graduate or equivalent.



Experience: Experience with retail sales, ideally in a thrift store setting.



Skills/Abilities:



  • Must be able multi-task



  • Must be able to communicate well with others



  • Must be able to work with little or no supervision



  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and employee manuals



  • Ability to write routine reports and complete paperwork



  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and employees



  • Ability to handle cash, make change, and operate a cash register



  • Ability to perform basic math functions



Supervisory Duties: This position will oversee and direct community volunteers, complete other management level duties as assigned or in the absence of store management including supervision of Store Clerks.



Physical Requirements: Includes sitting, climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 75 pounds; both outdoor and indoor navigation of settings, and standing and/or walking up to 12 hours per day. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.



Travel: None



Working Conditions: Fast pace. Work is performed in a retail store type setting. Position requires Saturdays.
