Job summary

Pinterest is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the Storage Services team responsible for the scalable online structured data platform that powers major products. You will shape technical strategy, architect storage services, and drive cross-functional initiatives.

You'll mentor engineers, optimize performance for 100TB+ datasets and 1.5M+ queries per second, and leverage AI to accelerate design, automation, and operational excellence in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend development on large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience with online structured storage, distributed databases, or large-scale data platforms.
• Proficient in Java, Python, or C/C++.
• Experience in incident response, capacity planning, and performance tuning.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance to a high-performing team building scalable storage systems.
• Lead the architecture and evolution of online structured storage services for SQL/table and graph workloads.
• Drive initiatives to modernize the storage stack, including TiDB migrations, while improving reliability and developer velocity.
• Improve query throughput and latency for 100TB+ datasets and 1.5M+ queries per second.
• Mentor senior engineers and participate in on-call rotations, reviews, and post-incident learning.
